Preinscripcions ENG23

The organization of the XIV Mitja Marató de Formentera and the 8KM Sant Ferran-La Savina, which will be held on May 13, 2023, announces the opening of the period to request pre-registration in one of the two races starting today, Wednesday 16 November and until next December 13. In this edition, the total number of places will be 2,000 for the Mitja Marató and 1,000 for the 8KM.
In order to obtain a place, it is necessary to previously participate in the pre-registration process, which is free and is carried out through the official website of the event www.marato-formentera.com. If, once the pre-registration is finished, there are more pre-registered athletes than places available, a draw for places will be held before a notary public on December 15.
Regular residents of Formentera and those who have participated in five or more editions, who in both cases have a guaranteed place, are exempt from making this pre-registration. The former can request it through the Esports area of the Consell de Formentera, while the latter will receive a code by email to access the platform and confirm their registration. The deadline for registration of the latter will be from November 16 to December 13.
Among all the pre-registered, the organization will raffle on December 15, before a notary, the places that remain available, once those formalized by those who have taken the test in 5 or more editions have been discounted. Once the draw has been made, the winners will be able to confirm their registration between December 20 and January 16, 2023.
As has been customary in recent editions of the event, which has the institutional sponsorship of the Consell de Formentera and the Government of the Balearic Islands, the great demand for participation and the island’s own territorial limitations, force the organization to establish this registration system to cover the 3,000 participants allowed between both races.

Registration process 2023

02/11/2022 // Unisport Consulting

As you may already know, the Half Marathon of Formentera and the 8 km race have limited entries, due to the peculiarity of the island.

In order to get an entry for the race, it is necessary to previously participate in the pre-registration process, which is free of charge. Once the pre-registration period has ended, if there are more athletes pre-registered than entries available, a raffle for entries will be hold before a notary. All those interested must pre-register, otherwise they will not be included in the raffle for entries and, therefore, they will not be able to participate in the races.

On November 16, the pre-registration period will begin, in order to be able to participate in the XIV Half Marathon of Formentera and the 8KM Sant Ferran-La Savina, to be held on May 13, 2023.

Exempt from this pre-registration are residents of Formentera and those who have participated in five or more editions, who have a guaranteed entry. The former can apply for their entry through the Sports area of the Consell de Formentera, while the latter will receive an e-mail with a code to access the platform and confirm their registration. The registration period for the latter will be from November 16 until December 13.

The rest of the runners must apply for pre-registration through the official website of the race www.marato-formentera.com from November 16 to December 13.

On December 15, among all the pre-registered runners, the organization will hold a raffle before a notary of the entries that remain available, after having deduced those who have run in the race in 5 or more editions. In this edition, the total number of entries will be of 2.000 for the Half Marathon and 1.000 for the 8KM. Once the raffle has been held, the winners will be able to confirm their registration between December 20 and January 16.

Important: Remember that participating in the pre-registration process does not exempt you from making the final registration, which is confirmed by the payment of the corresponding fee.

Letter from the organization to the participants

23/05/2022 // Unisport Consulting

Salida Grupo Aérea

Dear runner,
As the head of Unisport Consulting, organizer of the Half Marathon of Formentera and the 8km race, since the creation of both races, I wanted to express in first person my sincere and deepest apologies for what happened last May 14 regarding the shortage of water for hydration during the race and the added problems in post-finish line area. A fact attributable exclusively to the Organization, which I deeply regret and which should not have happened in any way.

Although there is no possible justification, several situations combined explain, in part, that the hydration service to the runners was insufficient. As you know, the commitment of the organization, in line with the Consell de Formentera, is to make this race an event with the least environmental impact, complying with the measures decreed by the Balearic Government, which prohibits, among others, the use of single-use plastic containers in this type of events. This circumstance is proving to be a serious problem to solve for the organizers of sporting events, especially when participation reaches certain number of participants.

We, as organizers, thought we had solved this aspect, with the distribution of water in cups at the refreshment stops, as well as with the distribution at the finish line of 3,700 metal bottles (1,000 more than the runners who finally participated) to refill in dispensers, but it is clear that the device, for different circumstances (insufficient flow for high demand, some participants taking several bottles …), did not work according to our forecasts. In addition, the strong heat, with higher temperatures than usual at this time in Formentera, also increased the hardness of the race and, therefore, the need for hydration by all athletes.

Furthermore, I would like to address another of the complaints that many of you have expressed to us, about the wait of almost two hours in the animation area at the start. This is an issue that has a simple explanation: the Organization uses all the buses available in Formentera to transfer the participants to the starting line, but these are not enough and, therefore, it is necessary to make several trips. In addition, both the place where the buses leave the runners at the start and on the access road, force this operation to be carried out in a staggered manner, hence the need for a reasonable time that may be more or less long depending on the place of collection and the turn of each one. In any case, we will also evaluate possible improvements for future editions.

Throughout these years, thanks to the effort and collaboration of all, we have achieved that both races, the Half Marathon of Formentera and the 8km Sant Ferran-La Savina, to have a recognized prestige that would not be fair to question because of the failures that may have occurred in this edition. Neither the team that works all year to make the best possible race; nor our sponsors and collaborators; nor Formentera and its people, who are committed to the race; nor each and every one of the participants who have had the opportunity to run with us in Formentera, because, sincerely, I think that there have been more successes than mistakes since we started organizing both races.

Therefore, from the commitment of the organization to start working on improvements for the next edition, paying attention to the contributions you want to make through our profiles on social media or our contact email, I reiterate my apologies for what happened and I hope we can continue to count on your presence in the next editions of the Formentera Half Marathon and the 8km Sant Ferran-La Savina.

Sincerely,
Manuel Hernández

Borja Rodríguez and Ionela Clara prevail in the XIII Mitja Marató de Formentera

14/05/2022 // Unisport Consulting

Foto sortida MitjaThe Madrid athlete Borja Rodríguez (Association Atlética de Móstoles) and the Romanian based in Valencia Ionela Clara, whose parents live in Formentera, have claimed victory in the XIII Mitja Marató de Formentera, held in summer heat. The winner posted an excellent time of 1:10:23”, beating Andreu Marimón, who started at 36”, at the finish line. The men’s podium was completed by Toni Gran, with a time of 1h13’35”. In females, the winner has invested 1h27’56” to travel the 21km route from the Faro de la Mola and the Port de la Savina, where the finish line was located. Isabel Parra has been the second classified, with a time of 1h29’35”, and third, Elena Sánchez, with a mark of 1h30’10”.
The Faro de la Mola has been the scene, one more edition, of the start of the test, in which 2,498 participants were registered. At 5:30 p.m., the president of Formentera, Ana Juan, cut the ribbon and the race began, under demanding conditions for the runners due to intense heat, which has put the participants to the test. Soon a group in the lead was formed, in which Borja Rodríguez was already found, who after passing km 10 has already stood out in first place, demonstrating his ambition. Behind, Andreu Marimón has been progressing and in the last kilometers he has been approaching the head of the race, but he has not been able to overcome Borja Rodríguez, who has managed to manage his advantage to cross the finish line in first place.

Foto Mitja

In women, the Romanian Ionela Clara has made an intelligent race, dosing efforts in the first kilometers, in which the protagonist has been Judit Pujol, first in the passage through the 10km. But from then on, the winner has accelerated the pace and has been beating rivals until placing herself in first position from km 14. Isabel Parra and Elena Sánchez have disputed the second place in a tight fight, in which they have prevailed the first.

They repeat victory in the 8km
At the same time as the half marathon, the 8km race between Sant Ferran and La Savina also started, with a registration of 1,225 runners, in which the winners of the 2021 edition, held then in the month of October. Diego Martínez has set a time of 28’15” at the finish line, ahead of Toni Ques (28’38”) and Llorenç Vidal (28’58”). In women, Roser Mañosa has once again demonstrated his superiority in this distance and has prevailed with a time of 33’03” to Cristina García (34’26”) and Natalia Fernández (35’05 “).

Ganador 8km
The test, which in this edition has recovered its usual date in the month of May, after being held in October 2021 and being suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, has recovered the pre-pandemic participation figures and has once again become a sports festival and the good atmosphere in Formentera, thanks to the institutional support of the Consell de Formentera, the Agència d’Estratègia Turística de les Illes Balears (AETIB) and numerous sponsors and commercial collaborators such as Oysho, Trasmapi or Caixabank.

The organization apologizes for the lack of water
Even so, given the complaints of some runners about the lack of water at the provisioning points along the route and at the finish line, the organization recognizes that it has been insufficient, for which a public apology is made to all the runners. A fact that, from the organization, is justified by the intense heat that has occurred during the celebration of the test, which has caused a greater ingestion of liquid, and also by an erroneous forecast in the number of liters of water and containers not necessary reusable, given the commitment not to use single-use packaging.

Presentation of the race

11/05/2022 // Unisport Consulting

Foto presentación 2022

The president of the Consell, Ana Juan; the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Alejandra Ferrer, and the Minister of Sports, Paula Ferrer, today presented the XIII Formentera Mitja Marató and the IX 8 km Sant Ferran-la Savina, which will be held this Saturday, May 14, in the island. In total, both tests bring together more than 3,700 athletes from different countries and points of the national geography. The presentation was also attended by the director of Unisport Consulting, Manuel Hernández, the event’s organizing company; the Trasmapi marketing manager, Nuria de la Torre, and the director of the Caixabank area in the Pitiusas, Gaelle Ledour, main sponsors of the race.

Ana Juan has underlined that “Formentera is ready and excited to receive the largest test of the extensive sports calendar and events that the island offers in spring”. Juan has highlighted that this year there are changes to the start: “The Mitja Marató is a race to enjoy sport and this privileged environment that is Formentera, and for all of us it is important that the race is respectful with the environment; thus, This year the entertainment tent at the Mola exit has been moved, to respect the habitat of the virot and, also like last year, the test will be free of disposable plastics”.

On the other hand, Alejandra Ferrer recalled “the appeal of this competition which, in addition to touring the island from end to end, is an ideal opportunity for the participants and their companions to enjoy Formentera in the month of May, its nature, culture and gastronomy”.

Sports spring in Formentera

For her part, Paula Ferrer has been “very satisfied because the island is showing that we can organize events of international relevance in different sports, such as sailing, judo, chess, cycling or, now, athletics… with the participation of more than six thousand people between all the tests”. The Minister of Sports has also thanked “the work of the volunteers, security forces, civil protection and the health teams that make this competition possible”.

Finally, Manuel Hernández, has highlighted that “the test has practically covered the quota of participants, one more example of its relevance and consolidation in the national and international calendar”.

Savings of 22,500 plastic bottles

As was done in 2021, in this edition a reusable can will be given to all participants at the finish line, which they can fill with water or soft drinks whenever they want. In addition, at the different refreshment points of the races, all the containers will be reusable. This will save up to 22,500 plastic bottles in one day.

Ecopilas will also be present again encouraging the recycling of batteries and, this year, in collaboration with the Consell de Formentera and the Government of the Balearic Islands, an activity will be carried out in schools on the island to raise awareness among the youngest about the importance of recycling a highly polluting material.

The start of the two tests will be at 5:30 p.m., the Mitja Marató, as usual, from the Mola lighthouse; and the 8 km one, from Sant Ferran.

SUSTAINABLE RACE: ‘NO TO SINGLE-USE PACKAGING’

04/05/2022 // Unisport Consulting

ING Plastic Free

As we did in 2021, this year we continue to say no to single-use plastic packaging. To do this, at the finish line all participants will be given a reusable bottle of the race, which they can fill with water or soft drinks whenever they want. In addition, all cups in the different refreshment stations of the two races will be reusable. This will save up to 22.500 plastic bottles in one day. Collaborating is the easiest way to change the world and we will do it.

ECOPILAS

As in previous editions, Ecopilas will once again join us in the 1/2 Marathon of Formentera spreading its commitment to the collection of batteries and will have a detail with all those who on the day of the race deposit used batteries in the stand located next to the bib number pickup tent, located at the finish line in La Savina. In addition, in collaboration with the Consell de Formentera and the Govern de les Illes Balears, an activity will also be carried out in the schools of the island to raise awareness among the youngsters about the importance of recycling a highly polluting material. Ecopilas will also give a suitcase to the winners (male and female) of both the Half Marathon and the 8km race.

Changes in the start line to respect the habitat of the Balearic shearwater in La Mola

27/04/2022 // Unisport Consulting

La Mola Virot

Participating in the 1/2 Marathon of Formentera also means being aware of the protection of the privileged environment in which the race is held and the planet in general. Therefore, this year we have relocated the animation tent of the starting line in the Lighthouse of La Mola, to place it 500 meters before the real starting line.

In this way, we preserve a geographical space currently cataloged as a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI in Spanish) and we reduce the acoustic impact on the natural habitat of the Balearic shearwater an endemic species of the Balearic Islands, which only breeds on our islands and that in this area of Formentera has one of the most important colonies.

Thus, the buses will transfer the participants to the animation tent, where there will be a DJ to liven up the waiting time and free water and coffee service, and the 500 meters to the starting arch will remain as a warm-up area for runners. Only by protecting our environment will we be able to enjoy it more. Thank you all for your collaboration.

#SAVEPOSIDONIAPROJECT

Participating in the 1/2 Marathon of Formentera also means being a participant in the #SavePosidoniaProject, a project that is born from the desire of the Consell Insular de Formentera to promote sustainable tourism and launch an action plan to raise funds that will go, exclusively, to the conservation of the marine plant Posidonia Oceánica. The objective is to raise awareness about the vital importance of Posidonia in Formentera in the present and, above all, for future generations.
