
Es Pujols hosts this coming Saturday, October 1, the IX Illa de Formentera Triathlon in the Sprint and Olympic modalities, a test that has become consolidated in the national triathlon calendar and that in this edition will bring together almost 300 local, national and international athletes, many of whom choose Formentera to put an end to their season taking advantage of the excellent conditions of the sea water on the island and a pleasant temperature in the middle of autumn.
The test is again disputed in two modalities, depending on the distance traveled by the participants. In the Sprint modality, whose start will be given at 2:15 p.m. and in which it will also be possible to compete in teams, the athletes must travel 750 meters inside the water, 20 kilometers by bicycle and 5 kilometers of running on foot. The competition in the Olympic modality will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the participants will face 1,500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers by bicycle and 10 kilometers running.
As in previous editions, the plaça d’Europa in es Pujols will once again be the epicenter of the event, where the competition will begin and end and where the boxes will be located for the change of each sport. Also the organization tents, where participants can collect their numbers between 9:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. This morning the official presentation to the media took place, with the assistance of the president of the Consell de Formentera, Ana Juan; the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Alejandra Ferrer; the Minister of Sports, Paula Ferrer; the director of the organizing company of the Unisport Consulting test, Manuel Hernández, and the commercial director of Trasmapi, Alex Marí.
Ana Juan has highlighted that the beginning of autumn in Formentera is marked by the celebration of different sports events that show that the island is an ideal setting for this type of event. “We like to celebrate these tests that allow us to enjoy the island by doing sports and that offer an image of the Formentera that we want”, said the president, who also thanked “the work of the organizers, volunteers and collaborating companies for carrying out test this Saturday.
The Vice President and Regional Minister for Tourism wished “the participants and their companions to enjoy both the event and the island”. such as relaxing or trying our cuisine and local products through the events and activities organized within the framework of the “Discover Formentera in October” campaign.

For her part, the Minister of Sports has highlighted that the Triathlon “is proof that in these years it has gained a lot of prestige among fans of this discipline due to the attractiveness of competing on a stage with the natural wealth that our island has; There are already nine editions and we trust that there will be many more”. In addition, the councilor has referred to one of the novelties of this year which is “a shirt made with ecological thread from recycled plastic”.
Manuel Hernández, general director of Unisport Consulting, the organizing company, has underlined “the commitment of Formentera and the island’s institutions to sport and to events such as this one or the 1/2 Marathon, which put the island on the map of the great sporting competitions”. And he added that Formentera “is a unique natural setting for this type of event and that is why we have an outstanding participation every year”. Traffic cuts
For this Saturday’s test, traffic will be closed between 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the streets of s’Espalmador (from the Sa Volta hotel to the exit roundabout in La Savina), s’Aigua Dolça, Roca Plana and Punta Prima, as well as the PM 820-2 road (from the exit roundabout to the entrance to La Savina). Likewise, the parking of vehicles will be prohibited on the same Saturday, October 1, between 8:00 and 20:00, in the streets of s’Espalmador, s’Aigua Dolça and Punta Prima.
