
Tomorrow, Saturday, September 30, Es Pujols will host the X Triathlon Illa de Formentera in the Sprint and Olympic modalities, a race that has been consolidated in the national triathlon calendar and that in this edition will bring together more than 300 local, national and international athletes, many of whom choose Formentera to put an end to their season, taking advantage of the excellent sea water conditions on the island and a pleasant temperature in the middle of autumn.
The test is again held in two modalities, depending on the distance traveled by the participants. In the Sprint modality, whose start will be at 2:15 p.m. and in which teams can also compete, athletes must travel 750 meters in the water, 20 kilometers by bicycle and 5 kilometers on foot. The competition in the Olympic modality will begin at 4 p.m. and the participants will face 1,500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers by bicycle and 10 kilometers running.
As in previous editions, the Plaça d’Europa in es Pujols will once again be the epicenter of the event, where the competition will begin and end and where the pits will be located for the changeover of each sport. Also the organization tents, where participants will be able to collect their numbers between 9:30 and 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday. It should be remembered that in-person registrations for the test will also be accepted, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the same area.
Institutional support
This morning the official presentation of this emblematic test took place, with the attendance of the president of the Formentera Council, Lorenzo Córdoba, the councilors of Tourism and Sports, Artal Mayans and Javier Tur respectively, and the director of the company organizing the test. Lorenzo Córdoba has expressed his satisfaction as head of the institution that, thanks to this event, the participants and companions of the athletes “can get to know a calmer, more authentic Formentera, and in a time like autumn that, together with the “spring, offers extraordinary weather conditions for sports events.” He has also insisted that from the Consell “we want to continue the promotion of sport on our island because we understand, and are very aware, that it is a very natural and sustainable way of approaching our customs, our traditions and our way of life.” live, closely linked to nature.” Córdoba finally encouraged the participants and their companions to discover the island “so that all together, with your effort and your company, we can contribute to spreading Formentera throughout the world.”
Manuel Hernández, general director of Unisport Consulting, the organizing company, has highlighted “the commitment of Formentera and the island’s institutions to sport and to events like this one or the 1/2 Marathon, which put the island on the map of major sports competitions.” And he added that Formentera “is a unique natural setting for this type of event and that is why every year we have an outstanding participation.” At the moment, there are more than 300 registered athletes, a figure that may increase because tomorrow Saturday, until 12 noon, in-person registrations will be accepted at the start of the test.
Trraffic cuts
For this Saturday’s test, traffic will be cut off between 1:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the streets of s’Espalmador (from the Sa Volta hotel to the exit roundabout in La Savina), s’Aigua Dolça, Roca Plana and Punta Prima, as well as the PM 820-2 road (from the exit roundabout to the entrance to La Savina). Likewise, vehicle parking will be prohibited on Saturday, October 1, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., on the streets of s’Espalmador, s’Aigua Dolça and Punta Prima.
